E.J. Jones, a sophomore defensive back, who started the first college game of his career for Minnesota in 2006, has gotten a new start at Illinois State. Jones helped lead the Redbirds to a 57-6 win Saturday over Indiana State, where his father, Edmund, is the defensive backs coach. Jones left Minnesota after sitting out last year after he and three other teammates were dismissed from the team. Full Story

Marshall football is heading down the stretch when it comes to camp, as just three more days and five more practices remain. Head Coach Mark Snyder has decided to move up his "walk-through" scrimmage to Friday afternoon (closed to the public) and give the team 48 hours off to get the dead weight out of the legs the weekend before the opener with Illinois State on Aug. 30 at 4:30 p.m. Full Story

Head Coach Denver Johnson and his Illinois State Redbird team is looking to bounce back from an under .500 season last year and return to the FCS Playoffs in 2008 as a member of the new Missouri Valley Football Conference (formerly the Gateway). It began as a trickle on Monday, with the Big East releasing schedules for West Virginia and Cincinnati, and Herd fans started planning for the 2008 football season. Wisconsin had already released its '08 slate, as had Illinois State, and now Conference USA has turned loose the football schedules for all 12 members on Tuesday. MU football faces nine bowl teams among other challenges for 2008. Full Story
